CyChap. 30.—An ACT to extend the corporate powers of the Roa-
noke street railway company.
Approved December 20, 1889.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the Roanoke street railway company (a corporation
duly chartered by act of the general assembly) is hereby
authorized and empowered to increase its capital stock to
the amount of one million of dollars.
2. The said company is also hereby authorized and
empowered to acquire and hold land to the extent of one
thousand acres, and to improve, utilize, and dispose of the
same as to it may seem best.
.8. The same company is also hereby authorized and
empowered to construct and maintain in the public high-
waysof the city of Roanoke, by and with the consent of the
city council of said city duly entered upon its records, and
in the public highways of the county of Roanoke, by and
with the consent of the county court thereof, such poles,
wires and other apparatus, as may be suitable for the pur-
pose of employing electricity as a motive power. ,
4. The said company is also hereby authorized and
empowered to condemn land for its uses, in the manner
