CHAP. 228.—An ACT to incorporate the Hebrew Home for the
aged and infirm of Richmond, Virginia.
Approved February 17, 1890,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That Henry S. Hutzler, Lewis Z. Morris, Charles Hutzler,
* Jacob Edel, Julius Straus, P. Hirsburg, William Loven-
stein, Isaac Held, Jacob Lewit, P. Whitlock, F. S. Myers,
H. H. Levy, and S. Proskauer, or such of them as may
accept the provisions of this act, and such other persons
as may hereafter be associated with them, and their suc-
cessors, shall be, and they are hereby, constituted a body
politic or corporate, under the name and style of the
Hebrew home for the aged and infirm of Richmond, Vir-
ginia, and shall have its chief office in the city of Rich-
mond.
2. The objects of said corporation are to maintain a
home for aged and infirm persons of both sexes; for reliev-
ing all deserving applicants who may be considered by its
officers worthy of the society’s bounty, and other benevo-
lent and charitable objects;‘and in order to carry out its
objects may acquire by lease, loan, gift, grant, purchase,
devise, or bequest such real, personal, and mixed property
as may hereafter be made to it by any person or persons,
and may also hold such property in trust for the purpose
of carrying out any of its objects and purposes. The said
corporation shall have the power to impose such monthly
or yearly dues upon its members as it may in its by-laws
provide.
3. The real estate to be held by said corporation shall
not exceed the sum of one hundred thousand dollars, and
may be disposed of in whole or part in such manner as
may be determined upon by the board of directors.
4. The said corporation may enact a constitution and
by-laws for its government, alter and amend the same at
pleasure, elect a president, board of directors, trustees, or
other officers that it may deem necessary and proper for
carrying out its lawful business, and particularly make
by-laws regulating the admission and expulsion of mem-
bers: provided, that nothing contained in this act shall
be inconsistent with the constitution and laws of the
United States or the state of Virginia.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
