CHAPTER 547
An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
7-37, designating the American Fox Hound the official dog of the
Commonwealth.

Whereas, the song, “Carry Me Back to Old Virginia” has been desig-
nated the official song of the Commonwealth; and
Whereas, the American Dogwood has been designated the floral
emblem and the Cardinal the State bird; and
Whereas, George Washington, the father of our country and one of
Virginia’s most illustrious citizens imported fox hounds into this State for
hunting purposes and all fox hounds are descendents of these dogs, and
Whereas, the American Fox Hound is one of four breeds of American
origin, the other three originating in other states; now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
7-37, as follows:
'g 7-37. The American Fox Hound is hereby designated the of-
ficial dog of the Commonwealth.
