CHAPTER 500

An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
16.1-58.1, so as to provide when judges of municipal courts not of
record may sit for other such judges in their absence.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section num-
bered 16.1-53.1, as follows:

§ 16.1-53.1. In the event of the absence of a judge or associate judge
of any municipal court, the senior judge of the municipal courts of record
within the city may designate a judge, associate judge or substitute judge
from another court not of record within the city to sit for such judge until
his return. Nothing contained in this section shall affect the provisions
of the charter of any city or town.
