CHAPTER 317
An Act to require the State Library Board to have prepared and to erect
an historical marker at the site of Moomaw’s landing on the North
River Canal; and to appropriate funds. : CH 805]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. The State Library Board is hereby directed to have prepared
and erected an historical marker in an appropriate location at the site of
Moomaw’s landing on the North River Canal. Such marker shall contain
substantially the following language:
At this spot was Moomaw’s landing on the North River Canal.
On May 14, 1863, the Marshall, queen of the packet fleet, passed
here carrying the body of General Thomas J. (“Stonewall”)
Jackson to Lexington for interment. The canal was the means by
which Mrs. Robert E. Lee came to Lexington to join her husband
at Washingto n College (now Washington and Lee University)
