CHAPTER 304

An Act to amend and reenact § 15.1-646 of the Code of Virginia, relatir
to department and board of health tn certain counties. HER

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 15.1-646 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacte
as follows:

§ 15.1-646. The department of health shall consist of the count
health officer, who shall be chosen from a list of eligibles furnished |
the State Board of Health, and who shall be head thereof, and the othe
officers and employees of such department. The head of such departme!
shall exercise all the powers conferred and shal] perform all the duti
imposed upon the local health officer and the local board of health t
general law, not inconsistent herewith. He shall also perform such othe
duties as may be imposed upon him by the board of county supervisor

The board of county supervisors may select two qualified citizens «
the county, who shall serve without pay, and who together with the coun!
heaith officer shall constitute the county board of health. Such board sha
advise and cooperate with the department of health and shall have pows
to adopt necessary rules and regulations, not in conflict with law, co.
cerning the department. The board may at any time be abolished by tl
board of county supervisors.

In any county having a population of more than seventy-five thousar
and less than one hundred fifty thousand, the county health officer may |
named the Director of Health.
