As Act to amend and reenact §§ 54-88.15 and 54-88.19 of the Code of
Virginia, relating to certificates of registration for barbers, apprentice
barbers, barber teachers and barber schools or colleges, and barber
shop permits, renewals thereof, fees therefor and examination fees,
so as to, among other matters, change the license period. (S17)

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
L That §§ 54-83.15 and 54-83.19 of the Code of Virginia be amended
and reenacted as follows:
§ 5483.15. Every registered barber teacher, registered barber and
every registered apprentice barber who continues in active practice or
service shall * biennially on or before January first of each odd-numbered
renew his or her certificate of registration and pay the required fee.
application for renewal of a certificate of registration, if required
by the State Board of Health, shall be accompanied by a certificate from
a licensed physician of this State, dated not more than ten days prior to
the date of application, attesting that he or she is free from any contagious
or infectious disease. Every certificate which has not been renewed during
the month of January in any * odd numbered year, as above provided, shall
expire on the first day of February of * such year. *
§ 54-83.19. * A certificate or permit issued under the provisions
of this chapter shall not confer on the holder thereof the right to practice
the profession or occupation or operate the establishment described thereon
waless such certificate or permit is current and the appropriate license fee
prescribed in this section has been paid to the Secretary of the Board.
_ The fee to be paid by an applicant for an examination to determine
his Atness to receive a certificate of registration to practice barbering shall
be fifteen dollars, to practice as an apprentice barber, five dollars, and to
teach barbering, twenty-five dollars.
_ Upon successful completion of the examination, and after paying the
biennial license fee hereinafter prescribed, such applicant shall receive a
certificate of registration. Such initial license fee for a barber shall be ten
remilairfl for an apprentice barber, ten dollars, and for a barber teacher,

The biennial license fee to be paid for renewal of such certificate shall
be for a barber, ten dollars, for an apprentice barber, ten dollars, and for
« barber teacher, thirty dollars.
The fee to be paid for a barber shop permit shall be ten dollars, and
the biennial renewal fee for such permit shall be ten dollars. —
The fee to be paid for issuance of a certificate of registration for a
barber school or college shall be one hundred dollars, and the biennial
renewal fee for such certificate shall be one hundred dollars.
Such barber shop permits and certificates of registration for barber
schools or colleges shall be biennially renewed on or before January first
of each odd-numbered year. Every such permit or certificate which has
not been renewed during the month of January in any odd-numbered year
shall expire on the first day of February of such year.
Whenever any certificate required by the provisions of this section
expires, and the holder of such certificate thereafter applies for renewal
thereof, then in addition to paying the renewal fee prescribed by this sec-
tion, he shall also pay as a penalty the sum hereinafter prescribed. Such
penalty for a barber shall be two dollars, for a barber apprentice, two dol-
lars, for a barber teacher, five dollars, and for a barber school or college,
fifteen dollars.
The license fee for any certificate or permit initially issued during
an even numbered year of any two-year license period shall be one-half of
the amount herein prescribed for such initial issuance.
Any certificate issued under the provisions of this chapter which has
been lost or destroyed may be replaced by a duplicate certificate upon pay-
ment of a fee of two dollars. Each such certificate issued shall have the
word “Duplicate” stamped thereon and shall bear the same number as the
original certificate.
2. This act shall be in force on and after January one, nineteen hundred
sixty-seven.
