An Act to amend and reenact § 1, as amended, of Chapter 289, Acts of
Assembly, 1956, approved March 6, 1956, relating to general regis-
trars in certain counties and their powers, duties and compensation.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 1, as amended, of Chapter two hundred thirty-nine, Acts of
Assembly, 1956, approved March six, nineteen hundred fifty-six, be
amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 1. The governing body of any county having a population of less
than forty-one thousand and adjoining a city of more than two hundred
thirty thousand population, * of any county having a population of more
than seventy thousand and adjoining four cities in the State and of any
county having a population of more than twenty-seven thousand five hun-
dred but less than thirty thousand may by resolution provide for the
creation of the office of general registrar of the county, who shall be in
addition to the registrars appointed as provided by law for the several
election districts of the county, and who shall be a discreet citizen, a quali-
fied voter and resident of the county for which he is appointed and shal)
possess the qualifications prescribed by law for registrars.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
