CHAPTER 3
An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
17-119.2, to provide for the election, qualification and commissioning of
judges of circuit courts under certain conditions and to ratify, validate,
and confirm certain actions heretofore taken.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
17-119.2, as follows:
§ 17-119.2. (a) In any case heretofore arising in which a judge has
been judge of a circuit created under § 17-119 as amended, and the counties
and cities, or one or more of them, have been transferred to and constituted
as part of a new judicial circuit and the remaining counties and cities
constituted a circuit, the judges of the respective circuits designated by
the Governor in accordance with § 17-119 are hereby declared to be judges
of said circuits and their actions are hereby ratified, validated and
confirmed.
(b) In any case hereafter arising in which a judge has been elected as
judge of a particular circuit and one or more of the counties and cities
constituting that circuit are created as a new circuit with the remaining
county and cities constituting a circuit, a new judge shall be elected by the
General Assembly for such new circuit in accordance with law.
(c) In the foregoing instances, the several judges involved shall
surrender their commissions and new commissions shall be issued them,
designating them as the judge of the circuit to which they are or have been
assigned in accordance herewith; each such commission shall set forth that
the term of the judge shall begin on the date of the term for which he has
been, or may hereafter, be elected by the General Assembly in accordance
with law.
2. Anemergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
