An Act to amend and reenact § 1 of Chapter 381 of the Acts of Assembly
of 1948, approved April 1, 1948, which provided a charter for the
town of New Market, in Shenandoah County, Virginia, relating to the
boundaries of the town, so as to correct an error. CH 135]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 1 of Chapter 381 of the Acts of Assembly of 1948, approved
April 1, 1948, be amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 1. The inhabitants of the territory embraced within the present
limits of the town of New Market, in Shenandoah County, Virginia, as
hereinafter defined, or as the same may be hereafter altered and established
by law, shall constitute and continue a body politic and corporate, to be
known and designated as the town of New Market, and as such shall have
and may exercise all powers which are now, or may hereafter be, conferred
upon or delegated to towns under the Constitution and laws of the
Commonwealth of Virginia as fully and as completely as though such
powers were specifically enumerated herein, and no enumeration of
particular powers herein shall be held to be exclusive. The territory em-
braced within the present limits of the town of New Market is described
by metes and bounds as follows:
Beginning at a point in the curb line on the east side of route +11
in a line of the Tastee-Freeze lot; thence crossing said route +11, crossing
Whitmore’s lot and other land N 56 45 40 W 796.41 feet to a concrete
monument set on the west side of a man-made pond; thence across several
fields, across Sam Winoker’s land, across Lester Winoker’s lot, across
route #:260, through Thornington Construction Company’s lot; through
Charles Hounshell’s lot and house, across Lee Street; thence along a fence
line S 88 09 50 W 4224.06 feet to a concrete monument set in said fence
line; thence crossing a field and passing through a shed, a garage, and a
large concrete block house, then crossing route +:11 S 56 51 00 E 784.79
feet to a point in the curb line on the east side of route +11 in front of
Dr. Bruce’s office; thence with said curb line S 35 43 20 W 269.84 feet
to its intersection with the north line of Shenvalee Lane; thence with the
north line of said lane S 49 02 10 E' 400.00 feet to a concrete monument
set at a corner with lot +17 in the Pence Addition; thence with a line of
the said Pence Addition N 38 29 50 E 825.86 feet to a concrete monument;
thence across the golf course S 56 51 00 FE 583.88 feet to a concrete monu-
ment set in Strayer’s Spring Branch beneath a foot bridge; thence crossing
the golf course, A. L. Hildreth’s land, other land, old route + 211, Bow-
man’s land, other land, new route + 211 and into the ball park N 88 08 00
EK 4198.71 feet to a concrete monument set in the ball park; thence crossing
the ball park, along F. I. Good’s lot line, crossing John Sevier Road and
down a street N 42 29 80 W 917.12 feet to a point in the east curb line
extended of route +11; thence with the east curb line S 32 20 40 W 201.21
feet to the point of beginning and containing 167.62 acres more or less.
2. Anemergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
