CHAPTER 274
An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Chapter 11 of Title 23
an article numbered 2.8, containing sections numbered 23-135.12
through 23-185.16, so as to establish, as a division of the Virgina
Polytechnic Institute, the Clifton Forge-Covington Branch of Vir-
ginia Polytechnic Institute, and to prescribe the terms and conditions
incident to the establishment of such branch college. fH 121]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding in Chapter 11 of
Title 23 an article numbered 2.3, containing sections numbered 23-135.12
through 23-135.16, as follows:

ARTICLE 2.3

§ 23-135.12. There is hereby established within the Virginia Poly-
technic Institute a division to be known as the “Clifton Forge-Covington
Branch of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute”, hereinafter referred to as
the division. Such division shall be in all respects subject to the Judgment,
control and supervision of the governing board of the Virginia Poly-
technic Institute.

8 23-135.13. The Board of Visitors of the Virginia Polytechnic In-
stitute shall have the same powers as to determining the fields of in-
struction to be offered; as to fixing tuition, fees and other charges; as to
the appointment and removal of administrative officers, professors, agents
and servants, and the making of rules and regulations as are now vested
in said board with respect to Virginia Polytechnic Institute. The board
of visitors shall have the power of granting appropriate diplomas or cer-
tificates of successful completion of the two-year curriculum of such
division.

§ 23-185.14. The curriculum offered by the division shall be limited
to courses of instruction which are offered by the Virginia Polytechnic
Institute to resident students during their first two years of enrollment
and to such other terminal courses of no more than two years duration
as may be authorized by the board of visitors to meet the post-high school
educational needs of the community.

§ 23-135.15. Appropriations, directly or indirectly, from the State
to the division shall be expended as directed by the Board of Visitors of
the Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

§ 23-135.16. The Board of Visitors of the Virginia Polytechnic In-
stitute shall be charged with the care and preservation of all property,
real and personal, belonging to the division. To this end, the Board is
authorized to acquire, by gift or purchase, a suitable site for the division,
and may accept and expend gifts and donations of any kind from indi-
viduals, firms, corporations and organizations.
