CHAPTER 47
An Act to authorize the Virginia State Bar to make rules and regulations
governing the functions and operation of legal aid societies, to pre-
scribe the conditions therefor, to provide for enforcement, and to
prohibit the operation of any legal aid society not approved by the
Virginia State Bar.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. The Virginia State Bar through its governing body is author-
ized to promulgate rules and regulations governing the function and
operation of legal aid societies so as to further the objective of providing
legal assistance to those requiring such assistance but unable to pay
therefor. Such rules and regulations shall be designed to further the
yabuic interest and prevent violations of law and of the canons of legal
ethics.
§ 2. The rules and regulations adopted under § 1 may be enforced
by the Virginia State Bar, or by the Attorney General if so authorized
by the Virginia State Bar.
§ 3. All legal aid societies in this State duly organized and oper-
ating on September one, nineteen hundred fifty-six, shall be deemed
approved legal aid societies until January one, nineteen hundred fifty-
seven. Thereafter such legal aid societies and all other legal aid societies
shall comply with the rules and regulations adopted under § 1.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
