Chap. 50.—An ACT to amend and re-enact a portion of an act entitled “An act
to appropriate the public revenue for the two years ending, respectively, on the
thirtieth day of June, 1933, and the thirtieth day of June, 1934,” approved
March 18, 1932, the portion amended and re-enacted being a part of the
said act making an appropriation to the State: Commission on Conservation
and Development for acquisition of area for the Shenandoah National Park.

I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That a por-
tion of an act entitled “An act to appropriate the public revenue for the
two years ending, respectively, on the thirtieth day of June, nineteen
hundred and thirty-three, and the thirtieth day of June, nineteen hun-
dred and thirty-four,” approved March eighteenth, nineteen hundred
and thirty-two, appearing on pages two hundred and eleven and two
hundred and twelve, Acts of Assembly, nineteen hundred and thirty-two,
and reading as follows:
“There is hereby appropriated to the State Commission on Conserva-
tion and Development ‘for acquisition of area for the Shenandoah Na-
tional Park’ any balance remaining unexpended at the close of business
on June 30, 1932, in the appropriation of $1,000,000, made to the State
Commission on Conservation and Development for acquisition of area
for the aforesaid park, by chapter one hundred and ten of the Acts of
Assembly of nineteen hundred and twenty-eight, and reappropriated by
chapter one hundred and eighteen of the Acts of Assembly of nineteen
hundred and thirty, provided further that such unexpended balance in
the aforesaid appropriation of $1,000,000 shall be used only for the
proceedings for the acquisition and the acquisition, by the State Com-
mission on Conservation and Development, at a reasonable price, of
land lying with the area recommended by the Secretary of the Interior
for inclusion in the proposed Shenandoah National Park. It is further
provided, that no part of this appropriation shall be paid out of the
State treasury for the purchase of land within the area until and unless

the Governor shall have transmitted to the Comptroller, with his ap-
proval, a report submitted by the State Commission on Conservation and
Development, showing that the pledges to the fund for the acquisition
of area for the proposed Shenandoah National Park have been col-
lected to the fullest possible extent, and showing further, that there are
sufficient funds available, as accurately as can be estimated, with the
addition of such funds as may have been pledged from sources outside
the State, to enable the said Commission on Conservation and Develop-
ment to acquire title to at least sufficient land within the proposed park
area to meet the minimum requirements for acceptance as a national
park, by the Secretary of the Interior, on behalf of the United States,
in accordance with the provisions of the act of Congress, approved
May twenty-second, nineteen hundred and twenty-six, or any amend-
ment thereto.
“It is further provided, however, that by resolution of the State
Commission on Conservation and Development, approved by the Gov-
ernor, not to exceed one hundred thousand dollars of this appropriation
may be used for the development of the proposed park area and the
promotion of the Shenandoah National Park project.”
Be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
“There is hereby appropriated to the State Commission on Con-
servation and Development ‘for acquisition of area for the Shenandoah
National Park’ any balance remaining unexpended at the close of busi-
ness on June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and thirty-two, in the ap-
propriation of one million dollars made to the State Commission on
Conservation and Development for acquisition of area for the aforesaid
park, by chapter one hundred and ten of the Act of Assembly of nine-
teen hundred and twenty-eight, and reappropriated by chapter one hun-
dred and eighteen of the Acts of Assembly of nineteen hundred and
thirty, provided further that such unexpended balance in the aforesaid
appropriation of one million dollars shall be used only for the pro-
ceedings for the acquisition and the acquisition, by the State Commis-
sion on Conservation and Development, at a reasonable price, of land
lying within the area recommended by the Secretary of the Interior for
inclusion in the proposed Shenandoah National Park.”
“This appropriation, and any part thereof, shall be paid out of the
State treasury for the acquisition of lands within said area whenever
the Governor shall so direct.”
2. All acts and parts of acts in conflict with this act are hereby re-
pealed, to the extent of such conflict.
3. A public necessity existing for the opening of Skyline Drive to the
public, this act shall be in force from its passage.
