Chap. 901.—An ACT to provide for weighing leaf tobacco in warehouses,
requiring proprietors thereof to furnish itemized statements and fixing
a penalty.
Approved March 6, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That all leaf
cbacco sold upon the floor of any tobacco warehouse in the state of Vir-
rinia shall first be weighed by some reliable person who shall have first
worn and subscribed to the following oath—to wit:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will correctly and accurately
weigh all tobacco offered for sale at the warehouse of ———_——————_,
and correctly test and keep accurate the scales upon which the tobacco
so offered for sale is weighed.
Said oath is to be filed in the office of the clerk of the county or city
court of the county or city in which said warehouse is situated.
2. The proprietor of each and every warehouse shall render to each
seller of tobacco at his warehouse a bill plainly stating the amount
charged for weighing and handling, the amount charged for auction
fees, and the commission charged on such sale, or any other charges
made for selling and handling such tobacco.
3. That for each and every violation of the provisions of this act
a penalty of ten dollars be enforced, and the same may be recovered by
any one so offended.
4. This act shall be in force from and after the first day of October,
nineteen hundred.
