1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, Tha
the duty of the judge of the corporation court of the city
News, on or before the first day of January, nineteen hundrec
five years thereafter, to appoint three proper persons from t
sections of the said city to assess the value of all lands and lc
with improvements thereon, in the said city, said persons |
same qualifications and to be appointed on the same condit
scribed by law for the appointment of assessors; and such 2
pointed under this act shall be known as the board of asse
city of Newport News, and shall, in the discharge of thei:
governed by the’ provisions of chapter twenty-three of the c
ginia of eighteen hundred and eighty-seven, and the other |
ginia with respect to the assessments of lands.

2. The council of the said city shall be authorized, in t
tion, to allow to each of the said assessors additional compen
and above that already provided by law, to an amount not ex
dollars per day for each day of actual service, the same to
and paid under such regulations as said council may presc!

3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
