Chap. 824.—An ACT to prevent hogs from running at large upon the public
streets and roads of the county of Montgomery, and to provide a penalty
for the same.
Approved March 6, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
be unlawful for the owner of any hogs or swine or for any person hay-
ing such animals in charge, to allow the same to run at large upon the
streets or roads of the county of Montgomery, and any such person
who shall intentionally permit such animals to run at large or who,
after notice to him.by any one that such animals are at large, as afore-
said, or are accustomed to run at large, as aforesaid, shall then fail
to prevent them running at large on any such street or road, shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction thereof, before
any justice of the peace shall be fined not less than one nor more than
ten dollars for each offense.
2. This act shall not be so construed as to prevent anv person from
allowing his own hogs or swine to run at large upon that portion of
any street or road passing through his own lands which is protected by
lawful gates.
3. The board of supervisors of Montgomery county shall have the
right, and are hereby authorized, to exempt at any time any magistcrial
district in said county, or any portion thereof, from the oneration of
this act, and to fix lines bounding the territory thus exempted as thev
may deem proper and to restore the same or any part thereof to the
operation of this act in their discretion.
4. This act shall be in force from July first, nineteen hundred.
