Chap. 582.—An ACT to provide for the appointment of special prosecuting
attorneys in the county of Alexandria.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That during
the absence or inability of the commonwealth’s attorney, of the county
of Alexandria, from sickness or other cause to discharge the duties
of his office, the judge of the county court in term time or vacation
shall appoint such person, as may be nominated by the commonwealth’s
attorney, a special prosecuting attorney to discharge the duties of
such office during such absence or inability, or while it is impossible
for the said commonwealth’s attorney to act; and such special attorney
so appointed shall have all the powers and privileges of the common-
wealth’s attorney, and be entitled to the same fees as such common-
wealth’s attorney would be entitled to in such cases. And no act what-
soever heretofore passed shall conflict in any way with the provisions of
this act, or shall an act approved January eleventh, nineteen hundred,
entitled an act to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to provide
for the appointment of special prosecuting attorneys in proper cases,
approved March third, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, apply to the
county of Alexandria.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
