Chap. 573.—An ACT for the relief of the sureties of L. C. Thomas, late
treasurer of Mathews county.
Approved March 6, 1900.
Whereas the commonwealth of Virginia obtained a judgement in the
ircuit court of the citv of Richmond, on the twenty-seventh dav of
Jetober, eighteen hundred and ninety-nine, against L. C. Thomas, late
reasurer of Mathews county, and W. J. Callis. George B. Thomas, IT.
T. Foster, Ehjah Buchanan, R. FE. Edwards, W. G. Hudgins. John A.
Bohannon, Laban Hudgins, George W. Hudgins. and J. P. Blake,
ureties upon his official bond, for the sum of four thousand three
1undred and four dollars and forty-nine cents, with interest to be
computed at the rate of fifteen per centum per annum on two hun-
lred and forty-six dollars and seventy-three cents, part thercof, from
the sixteenth day of October, eighteen hundred and ninety-nine; on
one thousand four hundred and {fifteen dollars, another part thereof,
from the fifteenth day of June, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight;
on one thousand four hundred and seventy-four dollars and seventy-
one cents, another part thereof, from the fifteenth day of June, eigh-
teen hundred and ninety-nine; and on one thousand one hundred and
sixty-six dollars and ninety- four cents, the residue thereof, from the
first day of July, eighteen hundred and ninety-nine, till payment, and
for thirteen dollars and twenty-three cents costs; and
Whereas the lands of said W. G. Hudgins, Laban Hudgins, W. J.
Callis, and Elijah Buchanan, sureties as aforesaid, were sold at public
auction at Mathews courthouse on February court-day, nineteen hun-
dred, and the gross sales amount to a sum considerably in excess of
the amount of said judgment, with interest and cost as aforesaid; there-
ore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That all interest
upon said judgment, in excess of six per centum per annum be, and the
same is hereby, released in favor of the said sureties; and that the
auditor of public accounts be, and he is hereby, authorized to accept
the payment of said judgment out of the proceeds of said land with
interest calculated at six per centum per annum.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
