Chap. 53.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act in relation
to the records of Alexandria county, approved March 3, 1879.
Approved January 13, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the hoard
of supervisors of Alexandria county be, and they are hereby, authorized,
if in their judgment it is necessary and proper, and the expense thereof
to said county be not too great, to contract with the clerk of the county
court of said county for the copying by him into such books as may be
provided by said board for such purpose, of all deeds relating to real
estate lying in Alexandria county, that may be found in the deed books
which were placed in the custody of the clerk of the corporation court
of the city of Alexandria, under and by virtue of an act approved April
ninth, eighteen hundred ‘and sev enty-four, entitled an act in relation to
the records of Alexandria county. ‘Lhe clork of the corporation court of
the city of Alexandria is hereby authorized and directed to deliver to the
clerk of the county court upon his application, the said deed books for the
purpose of copying as aforesaid, but not more than three deed books shall
be withdrawn out of the custody of the clerk of the corporation court
at. any one time. The clerk of the corporation court shall not be entitled
to any compensation under this act.
2. The books into which such deeds may be so copied shall be placed
in the custody of the clerk of the county court of said county, and kept
in the clerk’s oflice thereof, and a copy from any such book, attested by
the clerk of the said county court, may be admitted in evidence in heu of
the original, and all the provisions of section thirty-three hundred and
thirty-four of the code of Virginia, edition of eighteen hundred and
elghty-seven, shall be applicable to such copy.
3. The deeds copied into such hooks under this act, shall be indexed
by the clerk of said county court in the mode presc rihed hy law, and
shall have the same force and effect as to creditors and purchasers in
all respects, as they would have if such books were those in which the
deeds had becn originally recorded.
4. All acts and parts of acts in conflict with this act are hereby
repealed.
This act shall be in force from its passage.
