Chap. 526.—An ACT to provide for indexing certain deed books in Accomac
county court clerk’s office under the head of family and Christian names.
Approved February 26, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the county
court of the county of Accomac (or the judge thereof in vacation) be,
and is hereby, authorized to appoint some discreet and competent
person to index the deed books of said county under the head of familv
and Christian names; said family names to be arranged alphabetically, be-
ginning with the general index made by John W. Gillet, which was
brought down to eighteen hundred and seventy-seven, and continuing
up to the current deed book in use at the time the work shall be com-
leted.
P 2. That the clerk of the said court under its order, or of the order
of the judge in vacation, shall deliver the said books, not more than one
at a time, to such person as shall be appointed to do said indexing; that
said indexing shall be done in the clerk’s ollice building of said county,
and that all books and stationery necessary for such work shall he
furnished the person appointed by the clerk of said court, and the cost
thereof shall be certified to the board of supervisors, and paid out of
the county levy of said county.
3. That the person appointed under this act shall be subject to removal
by the said court or judge, and as compensation for his services shall
be paid such amount as the said court or judge shall deem proper and
just, not exceeding seventy-five cents for every hour actually emploved,
to be verified by ‘the affidavit of such person, and said amount shall
be certified to the board of supervisors of said county and paid out of
the county levy.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
