Chap. 51.—An ACT to empower the board of supervisors of the county of
Isle of Wight to build iron bridges in the said county.
Approved January 13, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembly of Virginia, That the board
of supervisors of the county of Isle of W ight be, ‘and they are hereby,
empowered to borrow from time to time a sum or sums of money, not
exceeding in the whole the sum of twenty thousand dollars, to be
expended in the erection and construction of iren bridges in the said
county, and to issue the bonds of the said county for the loan thereof.
The said bonds shall be either registered or coupon, in denominations
of one hundred dollars cach or multiples thereof, in such form as the
ACTS OF ASSEMBLY.
said board may prescribe; shall be signed by the chairman of the said
board and countersigned by the clerk thereof; shall bear interest at a
rate not exceeding six per centum per annum, payable semi-annually at
the office of the treasurer of the said county, and shall be payable not
exceeding twenty years after date at said office; and may, in the discretion
of the said board, be redeemable at such time or times as the said board
may prescribe. The said bonds, though of the same issue, may be made
payable at different times so that the same may mature and become
due and payable at different and varying periods; but no bonds issued
under this act shall be sold or negotiated at less than par.
2. The said board of supervisors shall annually include in the levy
upon the property and lawful subjects of taxation in the said county, as
a part of the county levy, a sum and tax sufficient to pay the annual
interest on the said bonds, and in such manner as the said board deem
best, create a sinking fund to pay off the said bonds at or before maturity.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
