Chap. 5.—An ACT to incorporate the Eta chapter of the Delta Kappa Epsilon
fraternity of the University of Virginia.
Approved December 18, 1899.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Raleigh
C. Minor, Charles 8S. Venable, junior, Lewellyn G. Hoxton, Archie R.
Hoxton, George D. F. Robinson, Brodie C. Nalle, Thomas W. Purcell,
William M. Dey, Garden C. Stuart, and such other persons, whether
minors or adults, as are now or may hereafter be associated with them,
are hereby declared to be a body politic and corporate by the name, style,
and title of the Eta chapter of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity
(the same being a fraternity existing at the University of Virginia),
and by that name shall be known in law, and shall have perpetual suc-
cession and a common seal, which may be a scroll or an impression, with
the right to change the same at pleasure, and shall have power to sue
und be sued, contract and be contracted with, and have all the rights
and privileges of a corporation, and be subject to all the rules, regula-
tions, and restrictions, and do all acts and enjoy all other powers incident
to similar corporations in general, under and subject to the laws of this
commonwealth.
2. That the objects of said association shall be the formation of good
{ellowship, friendship, and brotherly love amongst its members, the
encouragement of literature and education, and the furtherance of bene-
volent purposes.
3. That the members of said corporation who are or may be entitled
{o vote at any election of officers shall have full authority and power
to make and adopt a constitution and by-laws, and to prescribe rules and
reculations for the government of said association and the promotion of
its interests, and for the admission and expulsion of members, and from
time to time to alter and amend the same: provided, that the same be
not inconsistent with the constitution and laws of the United States and
of the state of Virginia.
4. That the officers of said association shall consist of a president and
such others as may be deemed necessary, and they shall be elected in

the manner and at such times as the constitution or by-laws may
prescribe.
That the capital stock of the association shall be not less than
five hundred nor more than five thousand dollars, divided into shares
of ten dollars each, and each holder of stock shall be entitled to
one vote in the meetings of the association, subject to the rules and
Lv-laws of the association.
That the said association may take and acquire, by purchase,
vift, devise, bequest, or otherwise, and hold real and personal estate, and
lease, sell, encumber or otherwise dispose of the same in such manner
as ay scem) host advantageous to the association or a duly authorized
committee thereof, provided that it shall not hold real estate of greater
vane than twenty thousand dollars,
That the said association may, for the purpose of obtaining and
furnishing a building to be occupied by the association, either wholly
or in part, issue bonds to an amount not exceeding five thousand dollars,
and secure the payment of the same by a deed of trust on all the prop-
erty, real and personal, of said corporation.
