Chap. 392.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 848 of the code of Virgini:
relating to the compensation of supervisors, as amended and re-enacted by:
an act approved March 2, 1892, as amended and re-enacted by an act ap
proved February 26, 1894, as amended and re-enacted by an act approvec
March 5, 1894, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved February 13
1896, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved February 14, 1896, a:
amended and re-enacted by an act approved December 13, 1897, as amendec
and re-enacted by an act approved March 1, 1898, fixing the per diem anc
mileage of supervisors in certain counties of the state.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sectio1
eight hundred and forty-eight of the code of Virginia, as amended an
re-enacted by an act approved March second, eighteen hundred an
ninety-two, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved Februar
twenty-sixth, eighteen hundred and ninety-four, as amended and re
enacted by an act approved March fifth, eighteen hundred and ninety
four, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved February thirteenth
eighteen hundred and ninety-six, as amended and re-enacted by an ac
approved February fourteenth, eighteen hundred and ninety-six, a
amended and re-enacted by an act approved December thirteenth, eigh
teen hundred and ninety-seven, as amended and re-enacted by an ac
approved March first, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, in relatio:
to the compensation of supervisors, be amended and re-enacted so as t
read as follows:
§ 848. Compensation of supervisors.—Each member of the board o
supervisors shall be allowed and paid out of the county levy a compen
sation for his services and expenses in attending the meetings of th
board at the rate of three dollars per diem for the time he shall actuall
attend, and five cents for each mile travelled in going to or returnin
from the place of meeting; but no per diem allowance shall be made fo
any time occupied in travelling where mileage is allowed therefor: prc
vided, that but one mileage shall be allowed for any one term of meet
ing of such board; and no supervisor shall be allowed to draw pay fc
more than ten days’ attendance in any one year, except that in th
counties of Warren, Rockingham, and Shenandoah, where no supervisc
shall be allowed to draw pay for more than fifteen days in any one yeal
provided further, that the supervisors of the counties of Lee, Scott, Wis
Buchanan, Floyd, Russell, and Bland shall each receive allowance
only three dollars per day for attendance, but not to exceed ten days }
one year, except that in the county of Northampton and the county ¢
Princess Anne each supervisor may draw pay for not more than sixicen
days, and in the county of Accomac each supervisor may draw pay for
not more than twelve days’ attendance in any one year: provided, that
the provisions of this act shall not apply to any counties where there
is a special law in relation to compensation of supervisors now in force
in such counties.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
