Chap. 389.—An ACT to incorporate the state council of Virginia, junior order
of united American mechanics of the state of Virginia.
Approved February 17, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Floyd A.
Hudgins, R. E. Criddle, Davis Bottom, Thomas B. Ivey, G. W. Kinsey,
W. D. Hill, and all other members of the said state council of Virginia,
junior order of the united American mechanies, and such other persons,
Whether minors or adults, as may hereafter become members thereof,
are hereby created a body politic and corporate (which shall be the
supreme head of the jumor order of united American mechamies in
the state of Virginia), by the stvle, name, and title of the state council
of Virginia, junior order of united American mechanics, of the state of
Virginia, and by that name shall have perpetual succession, may con-
tract and be contracted with, sue and be sued, may acquire, receive, and
hold any real, personal, or mixed property or estate, of any kind or de-
scription whatsoever, by gift, grant, bargain and sale, will, devise, or
bequest, from any person or persons, or corporation or society, oT asso-
clation whatsoever, and may grant, bargain and sell, rent, lease, loan
out, mortgage, improve, or dispose of, and in general, to do all things,
which may be lawful or necessary for the well being and proper manage-
ment of the said corporation: provided, that the real estate of which
the said corporation shall at any time be possessed, shall not exceed the
elear annual value of twelve thousand ($12,000) dollars.
2. That the said corporation shall have the power to make such con-
stitutions, laws, by-laws, rules, and regulations, as shall be necessary
for its government, and a promotion of the principles of the said cor-
poration.
3. ‘That the said corporation shall have full and exclusive authority
and jurisdiction to grant charters to subordinate councils, Junior order
united American mechanics, in the state of Virginia, with power to re-
voke the same for cause; to make such constitutions, by-laws, and rules of
order, as said corporation may deem just and proper for the government
of said subordinate councils.
4. That the officers of said corporation shall be such as said corporation
may decm necessary, and they shall be elected at such times and places,
nd in such manner as the rules and by-laws of said corporation may
yrescribe.
5. That the present officers of the state council of Virginia, junior
der of united American mechanics, of the state of Virginia, shall con-
inue in their respective stations until an election shall be had under this
ict, and the constitution, by-laws, rules and regulations now in force
hall be good and valid until altered, amended, or abrogated by the said
orporation.
6. The objects of this corporation shall be to maintain and promote
he interest of Americans, to assist them in obtaining employment, to
courage them in business, to afford relief to the members thereof and
heir families in case of accident, sickness or death, to defray the expense
of their funerals, or such other cases of distress as shall be defined by
he constitution, by-laws, rules and regulations of this corporation.
7. This act shall be in force from its passage.
