Chap. 254.—An ACT to amend and re-enact chapter 216, acts of 1881-1882, of
an act entitled an act to incorporate the James river and Blackwater rail-
road and lumber company, approved March 6, 1882, authorizing it to con-
struct branch lines not exceeding twenty miles in length.
Approved February 3, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That R. K.
Turner, W. D. Turner, W. A. Wimsatt, and John 8. Norsworthy, or
such of them as may accept the provisions of this act, be, and they are
hereby, constituted a body politic and corporate, by the name of the
James river and blackwater railroad and lumber company, for the pur-
poxe of manufacturing lumber, cutting wood, and otherwise operating
in the same, and for the purpose of transporting lumber, wood, mer-
chandise, and produce, and by that name may sue and be sued,
2, That the said company shall have all the powers, rights, and fran-
chises necessary and proper to locate, construet, and maintain a railroad
for the purpose of transporting wood, lumber, and such produce and
mnerchandise as may be brought them for transportation, from some
point. on Blackwater river, near Proetor’s bridge, in Isle of Wight
county, Virgina, to some point on James river, at or near Burwell’s
bay, in said county, with the privilege of constructing branch roads in
Isle of Wight, Surry, and Southampton counties, none of which shall
exceed twenty miles in length.
3. That the said company shall have power to hold and employ such
machinery and appliances as their business may require, and may pur-
chase and hold such land and timber as may be necessary for the suc-
cessful operation of said business and road.
4. The capital of said company shall not be less than fifteen thousand
nor more than fifty thousand dollars.
That the said company shall have power to build a wharf on James
river, and for that purpose may condemn land not exceeding one acre.
6. This act shall be in foree from its passage.
