Chap. 232.—An ACT granting to Mary F. Armstrong the right to erect a
breakwater and wharves on her property, on Hampton river.
Approved January 30, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Mary F.
Armstrong, or her assigns, be, and she is hereby, authorized to erect
and maintain a breakwater, and do the necessary dredging to reclaim the
land within the said breakwater on her lands on the west side of Hamp-
ton river or creek, in the county of Elizabeth City; the said breakwater
to be a straight line, the continuation of the northern line of her prop-
erty on the main land until it strikes that portion of her property known
as “ Blackbeard’s point ”; also from a point on the southeastern end of
Blackbeard’s point, and ‘on the west side of Hampton river or creek
at mean low-water mark, running northwardly along the west side of
said river or creek to a point one hundred yards north of the north end of
Blackbeard’s point: thence westwardly at right angles one hundred and
fifty feet; thence southwardly at right angles to Blackbeard’s point.
The said breakwater not to extend beyond a point where the depth of
water exceeds three (3) feet at low tide.
The said Mary F. Armstrong, or her assigns, is further authorized to
arect wharves along the said breakwater: provided, they do not obstruct
ravigation.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
