Chap. 215.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections 14 and 19 of the charter
of the town of Salem, in- the county of Roanoke.
Approved January 30, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sections
fourteen and nineteen of an act approved February twelfth, eighteen
hundred and ninety-two, entitled an act to amend and re-enact an act
passed March twenty-first, eighteen hundred and thirty-six, entitled an
act to incorporate the town of Salem, in the county of Botetourt (now in
Roanoke county), and all acts amendatory thereof, be amended and re-
enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 14. Be it further enacted, That all taxes, whether general or special,
upon any land or lot in said town under this act, are hereby declared to
constitute a lien upon such land or lot, and if the town sergeant shall
not have been able, with due diligence, to collect the said taxes by the
thirtieth day of June of each year after the same were assessed, he shall,
at the first meeting of the council thereafter, make return upon oath of
the taxes so uncollected, and the lands or lots whereon such uncollected
taxes were levied; and said council shall in all respects follow sections
ten hundred and forty-four, ten hundred and forty-five, and ten hun-
dred and forty-six of the code of Virginia, and cause clerk to furnish &
copy of real estate delinquent for non-payment of taxes to the treasure
of Roanoke county, as provided for by section six hundred and thirty
seven of said code.
§ 19. That the corporate limits of the said town shall be as follows
Beginning at the point where the corporate line now crosses the Cov
road, north of Salem; thence with the Cove road six hundred feet north:
ward; thence west five degrees south, to a point on Red Jane or Monteric
street of Queen City Jand company’s map; thence with west side of saic
street north to its intersection with Carrollton street, as per map o
Monterio land company; thence with south line of Carrollton street ir
straight line with northern boundary of tract of land owned by W. S
and O. D. Oakey, continuing in westerly direction on same line through
the property of J. H. B. Dillard and others, to west side of Board strect
as per map of Lake spring land company; thence in southerly directior
following the west side of Board street to the property of F. P. Goodwin
thence west with his north line to corner of his property; thence in south.
erly direction with his west line to Main street; thence with north side
of Main street to a point opposite the west side of Langhorne’s mill lane
thence with west side of said lane to the river; thence with said rivet
eastward to a point due south of the line between the lands of the Salem
improvement company and C. W. Burnell; thence northward with said
line to the north side of the electric car line; thence with north side of
the electric car line in a westerly direction to west side of Idaho street:
thence in northerly direction with west side of Idaho street to Big Lick
turnpike; thence with the said turnpike northwest to the present cor-
porate limits; thence with same to the beginning.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
