Chap. 1484.—An ACT for the relief of Mrs. M. H. Chandler, widow of a
Confederate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas Mathew L. Chandler, of Mecklenburg county, Virginia, and
a member of company A, fifty-sixth Virginia regiment of volunteers,
Hunton’s brigade, Pickett’s division, army of northern Virginia, was
wounded at the battle of Gettysburg on the third day of July, eighteen
hundred and sixty-three, from the effects of which wound he died on
the twenty-fifth day of December, eighteen hundred and sixty-nine;
Whereas Mistress M. H. Chandler, the widow of the said Mathew L.
Chandler, is a resident of Mecklenburg county, Virginia, and is in
destitute circumstances, and does not own property, and has no income
whatever; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
auditor of public accounts be directed to list the said Mistress M. H.
Chandler on the pension list, as he would a widow who had lost a hus-
band in the service during the civil war, and a pension of fifteen dol-
lars per annum be paid her: provided, the facts herein alleged be estab-
lished before the county court of Mecklenburg county.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
