Chap. 1389.—An ACT for the relief of Susan Ann May, the widow of a
Confederate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas William N. May, a deceased Confederate soldier of Virginia,
a true and gallant soldier during the war between the states was loyal
to Virginia, and served through the entire war; and
Whereas he has since died, leaving behind his widow, Susan Ann
May, who is old and in destitute circumstances; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
corporation or hustings court of the city of Manchester shall examine
into the condition of the above-named Susan Ann Mav, the widow of a
Confederate soldier, and should it be that he was true and loval to
Virginia, through the war, and that she is now old and in destitute
circumstances, and that she is needy and poor and should receive aid
from Virginia, and if the corporation or hustings court of Manchester
should send a certificate of the facts to the auditor of public accounts
of Virginia, then the auditor of public accounts is directed to place
the name of Susan Ann Mav on the pension list, and pav her annually
the sum of fifteen dollars on and after the first day of April, nineteen
hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
