Chap. 1358.—An ACT for the relief of Sarah J. Loftis, widow of William A.
Loftis, a Confederate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas Sarah J. Loftis, of Halifax county, is the widow of William
A. Loftis, a Confederate soldier, company G, thirtieth North Carolina,
Captain Barnett commanding, who was a gallant soldier during the late
war and was wounded at Gaines’ mill, twenty-seventh of June, eighteen
hundred and sixty-two, and was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas she is now old and in indigent circumstances; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the county
court of the county of Halifax shall examine into the facts above men-
tioned, and should it be that the above-named Sarah J. Loftis and her
deceased husband were true and loyal to Virginia through the war, and
that she is now destitute and incapacitated for manual labor, and that
she should receive aid from Virginia, and if the county court of the
county of Halifax shall send a certificate of the facts to the auditor
of public accounts of Virginia, then the auditor of public accounts shall
place the name of said Sarah J. Loftis upon the pension list, and shall
vay her annually the sum of fifteen dollars.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
