Chap. 1335.—An ACT for the relief of J. F. Covington, of Caroline county.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas J. F. Covington, a disabled Confederate soldier of company
kK, fifty-seventh Virginia infantry, was a true and gallant soldier, was
loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas the said J. F. Covington is now suffering from the effects
of a severe wound received in the shoulder on the thirtieth day of July,
eizhteen hundred and sixty-two, and is poor and needy; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
county court of Caroline county shall examine into the condition of
the above-named J. F.. Covington, a Confederate soldier, and should
it be that he was true and loval to Virginia through the war; and that
he is now afflicted and incapacitated for manual labor; that he is needy
and poor, and should receive aid from Virginia, and if the county court
of Caroline county should send a certificate of the facts to the auditor
of public accounts of Virginia; then the auditor of public accounts is
directed to place the name of J. F. Covington on the pension list and
pay him annually the sum of fifteen dollars on and after the first day
of April, nineteen hundred.
2. ‘his act shall be in force from its passage.
