Chap. 129.—An ACT to authorize the town of Lexington to impose a license
tax on the manufacture or distillation or sale of wine, ardent spirits, malt
liquors, or any mixture thereof, within the corporate limits of the town of
Lexington, or within one mile of the corporate limits of the said town.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That in all cases
in which the laws of this state require a license to be taken out by anv
person engaged in the manufacture or distillation or sale of wine, ardent
spirits, malt liquors, or anv mixture thereof, the mavor and council of
the town of Lexington shall have power to require a license to be obtained
therefor and a license tax to be paid, in all such eases, for the benefit of
said town, before such person shall he permitted to pursue such business
within said town, or within one mile of the corporate limits of said
town. The amount of such tax shall be determined bv the mayor and
council of said town by ordinance, which ordinance mav prescribe a
penalty of five dollars a dav for each dav’s violation thereof. which
penalty may be collected as other fines of the town are collected.
2. This act shall be in force from May first, anno domini, ninetcen
hundred.
