Chap. 1258.—An ACT for the relief of John D. Lewis, a disabled soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas John D. Lewis, of Campbell county, Virginia, a disabled
Confederate soldier of company II, fourth Virginia infantry regiment,
Stonewall brigade, was a true and gallant soldier during the civil war;
and
Whereas he was three times wounded while serving as such soldier;
and
Whereas he is now disabled from the performance of manual labor
by wounds received at Malvern hill, on or about the twenty-seventh
day of June, eighteen hundred and sixty-two; and
Whereas he is now in needy circumstances; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
county court of Campbell county shall examine into the condition of
the said John D. Lewis, and should the said court find that he was
true and loyal to Virginia through the civil war, and that he is now
disabled from the performance of manual labor, and that he is in needy
circumstances and should receive aid from Virginia, the said court
shall certify such facts to the auditor of public accounts of Virginia,
and thereupon the auditor of public accounts is hereby authorized and
directed to place the name of the said John D. Lewis on the pension
list and pay him annually the sum of fifteen dollars, on and after the
first dav of April, nineteen hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
