Chap. 1236.—An ACT for the relief of J. S. Cannon, of Spotsylvania county,
Virginia.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas J. S. Cannon, a disabled Confederate soldier of Braxton’s
battery, Fredericksburg artillery, was a true and gallant soldier during
the civil war, was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas he is now suffering from the following disabilities—to wit:
Organic valvular disease of the heart, due to an attack of pneumonia
and measles contracted in the war, also exposure, resulting in dropsy
and shortness of breath, which renders him totally unfit for work at all
times and at times confines him to his bed; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the county
court of Spotsylvania shall examine into the condition of the above-
named J. 8S. Cannon, a Confederate soldier, and should it be that he was
true and loyal to Virginia through the war and that he is now disabled,
afflicted, and incapacitated for manual labor for causes set out in the
preamble of this act; is needy and poor and should receive aid from
Virginia, and if the county court of Spotsylvania county should send
a certificate of the facts to the auditor of public accounts of Virginia,
then the auditor of public accounts is directed to place the name of
J. S. Cannon on the pension list and pay him annually the sum of
fifteen dollars on and after the first day of April, nineteen hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
