Chap. 1165.—An ACT for the relief of J. D. Clay, a Confederate soldier of
Halifax county.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas J. D. Clay, of Walifax county, Virginia, was a brave and
gallant soldier in company A, fifty-third Virginia regiment; and
Whereas J. D. Clay, while in ‘the discharge of his duties in the service
of the Confederate states, at Malvern Hill, on the second day of July,
eighteen hundred and sixty-two, was w ounded—being shot through both
legs—from which wounds he has become incapacitated from. actua,
manual labor and is often unable to walk without crutches; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the saic
J. D. Clay be permitted to prove before the county court of Halifay
county the above facts, and any other material faets—bv the bes
evidence obtainable—and upon such being adduced before the said court
and when said court shall certify the same before the auditor of public
accounts, the said auditor is authorized and directed to place the nam
of J. D. Clay upon the pension rolls of this state, and to draw his war
rant annually in due form of law in favor of the said J. D. Clay for th
payment of a pension, on account of said disability, of fifteen dollar
per annum.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
