Chap. 1112.—An ACT to authorize the county of Carroll to vote to rebate
taxes on the Atlantic and Western railroad, in said county.
Approved March 7, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That in order
to aid and encourage the construction of the Atlantic and western
railroad, the board of supervisors of the county of Carroll are author-
ized and empowered to rebate or remit the county and district taxes
that may be levied on said road in said county for a period of vears
which may be named in an order of court authorizing an election for
the purpose of rebating or remitting such taxes: provided, said board
shall be so instructed by a vote to be taken in said county as hereinafter
provided.
2. In order to ascertain the sense of the qualified voters the court
shall enter an order setting forth the time for which such taxes shall
be rebated or remitted, and directing that a vote be taken on such
question at any special or regular election, and provided that three-
fifths of the voters voting shall be required to authorize such rebate or
remission of taxes, and that said three-fifths shall inclide a majority
of the votes cast by freeholders at such election: provided, however,
that such rebate or remission shall apply only to the main line of said
Atlantic and western railroad company and not to any of its branch
lines.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
