Chap. 12.—An ACT for the relief of H. R. Hooper, Joseph Jorgenson
and James Mickle, suretics of B. M. Cox, late Sheriff of Prince
Edward county.
Approved December 19, 1874.
Whereas, a judgment was obtained on the twelfth day of
November, eighteen hundred and seventy-three, in the cir-
cuit court of the city of Richmond, by the commonwealth
of Virginia, against H. R. Hooper, Joseph Jorgenson and
James Mickle, for the sum of fourteen hundred and eighteen
dollars and six cents, with certain interest thereon, and cer-
tain damages on account of their suretyship for B. M. Cox,
late sheriff of Prince Edward county, certain portions of
which sum have already been paid’ by said sureties; there-
fore, ,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the auditor of public accounts is hereby authorized
and directed to receive from the said sureties, or either of
them, the principal sum for which said judgment was
awarded, with six per cent. interest thereon from the date
of said judgment, and costs, in full satisfaction of their lia-
bility by reason of the said judgment on account of their
suretyship for the said B. M. Cox, which settlement, when
made, as to their hability to the commonwealth, shall enure
also to the benefit of the other sureties of the said B. M.
Cox, late sheriff as aforesaid: provided, that nothing herein
contained shall be construed as relieving the said B. M. Cox
from the payment of any portion of said judgment and costs.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
