An Act to authorize the Governor on behalf of the State to convey certain
formerly submerged land to the city of Portsmouth. CH 696]

Whereas, in recent years the city of Portsmouth has reclaimed by
filling via submerged lands from the bed of the Elizabeth River in
Portsmouth, Virginia, abutting the property owned by it and the city
desires to perfect its title to such reclaimed lands by obtaining a convey-
ance thereof from the Commonwealth of Virginia; now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. That the Governor is hereby authorized to convey to the city
of Portsmouth, all right, title and interest of the State in and to the fo
lowing described property :
All that certain piece or parcel of land containing approximately 29
acres, situate, lying and being in the city of Portsmouth, Virginia, and
being more particularly bounded and described as follows:
Beginning on the north side of Seaboard Avenue at a point 535 feet
west from the point where the west line of Spencer Avenue would inter-
sect the said north side of Seaboard Avenue; thence east along the north
side of Seaboard Avenue extended 1,215.82 feet; thence North 5° 08’ 18”
West 1,029.09 feet to the bulkhead line; thence South 88° 54’ 50” West
420.95 feet along the bulkhead line; thence South 79° 47’ 05” West 799.05
feet along the bulkhead line; thence South 5° 08’ 18” East 988.15 feet to
the point of beginning.
2. The deed conveying the aforesaid property shall be prepared
by the Attorney General and shall contain such covenants as may
appropriate under the circumstances.
An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
