CHAPTER 391
An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
46.1-8.1 to prohibit the leaving of vehicles or parts thereof upon pri-
vate property, and to authorize the governing bodies of counties, cities
and towns to remove and dispose of the same. [H 95]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by hr: tr a ‘ eestion numbered
46.1-3.1 as follows:
§ 46.1-3.1. It shall be unlawful for any person to leave any motor
vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, or part thereof on the private property of any
other person without his consent. The governing body of any county, city
or town may by ordinance provide, upon complaint of the owner of the
property on which such motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, or part thereof,
been abandoned for more than five days, that such motor vehicle,
trailer, semitrailer, or part thereof, may be removed by or under the
direction of a police officer to a storage garage or area; such ordinance
may also provide that the person at whose request such motor vehicle,
trailer, semitrailer, or part thereof, is so removed shall indemnify such
county, city or town against any loss or expense incurred by reason of
removal, storage or sale thereof.
In all other respects, the provisions of § 46.1-3 of the Code shall apply
to such removals.
In the case of the removal of a part of a motor vehicle, trailer or semi-
trailer from private property, when such part cannot be readily sold, it
may be disposed of in such manner as the governing body of the county,
city or town may provide.
