An Act to amend and reenact § 28-49.1 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to divisions of the College of William and Mary in Virginia. rH 217]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 3-49.1 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenactec
follows: _
” § 23-49.1. (a) The Norfolk Division of the College of William anc
Mary in Virginia, * the Richmond Professional Institute, and the Division.
at Newport News and Petersbury respectively, (hereinafter referred to, re
spectively, as Divisions and Institute) are hereby established as divisions
of the College of William and Mary in Virginia, and are integral parts
thereof. Such divisions shall be subject to the supervision, management
and control of the board of visitors of the College.
(b) All property, property rights, duties, contracts and agreements
of both the Divisions and the Institute are vested in the board of visitor:
of the College. The President of the College by virtue of his office shall
be the principal administrative officer of the Divisions and the Institute
The board of visitors of the College is charged with the care and preser-
vation of all property belonging to the Divisions and the Institute. With
respect to the Divisions and the Institute, the board of visitors shall have
the same powers as to granting degrees, as to fixing tuitions, fees, and
other charges, as to the appointment and removal of administrative officers,
professors, agents and servants, and the making of rules and regulations,
as are now vested in them with respect to the College; provided, that no
degree shall be conferred for completion of the course of instruction
offered at the Divisions at Newport News and Petersburg. The title of
the chief local administrative officer of the Divisions and of the Institute,
respectively, shall be that fixed by the board of visitors.
(c) Appropriations directly and indirectly from the State to the
College in Williamsburg, the Divisions and the Institute, respectively,
shall be expended as directed by the board of visitors of the College of
William and Mary in Virginia.
