An Act to authorize the State Library Board to erect a marker commem-
orating Operation Torch 1942.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. From funds provided by law, the State Library Board is authorized
to erect in the city of Norfolk an appropriate historical marker commem-
orating Operation Torch 1942. Said marker shall bear substantially the
following legend:

1942
During World War II the Nansemond Hotel was headquarters for
the Commander of Amphibious Force U. S. Atlantic Fleet. Here, a joint
Army-Navy Staff commanded by Admiral H. K. Hewitt and General
George S. Patton, made plans for the movement of Task Force “A’”’ from
Hampton Roads, to occupy the shore of North Africa. Known as “Oper-
ation Torch’, this was the first major amphibious action of the war.
