AN ACT to amend and reenact § 76, as amended, of Chapter 157 of the Acts
of Assembly of 1908, approved March 10, 1908, which provided a new
charter for the city of Portsmouth, and to add thereto a new chapter
numbered 11.1, relating to the compensation of the mayor, councilmen
and other city officers. 5

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 76, as amended, of Chapter 157 of the Acts of Assembly of
1908, approved March 10, 1908, be amended and reenacted, and that said
chapter be amended by adding a new chapter numbered 11.1, the amended
section and new chapter being as follows:
§ 76. The city council shall grant and pay * to all city officers, clerks
and assistants, elected or appointed under or in pursuance of this act
such salaries or compensation as shall be fixed by this charter or by
ordinance of the city.
Chapter 11.1
§ 1. The city council, out of the general funds of the city, shall
grant and pay to the mayor the sum of one hundred and twenty-five dollars
per month and to the other members of the city council the sum of one
hundred dollars per month each.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
