CHAPTER 76

An Act to amend and reenact § 5 of Chapter 303 of the Acts of Assembly
of 1944, approved March 29, 1944, relating to benefits payable under
retirement and pension systems of certain counties. [H 233]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 5 of Chapter 303 of the Acts of Assembly of 1944, approved
March 29, 1944, be amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 5. In case of the death of any member of the police department
before retirement leaving a widow or a child or children under sixteen
years of age, the widow shall be entitled to receive relief from the pension
fund in an amount not exceeding * eighty dollars a month and each child
under the age of sixteen years in an amount not exceeding * forty dollars
a month; provided that upon the remarriage of any widow granted relief
under the provisions of this section the relief shall cease and the relief
granted to or for any child or children under the age of sixteen years shall
cease upon reaching that age.
