CHAPTER 639
An Act to authorize the State Board of Health to make rules and regula-
tions regarding the requirements for plumbing, plumbing fixtures,
plumbing equipment and appurtenances thereto, and to repeal chapter
17 of Title 54 of the Code of Virginia, consisting of §§ 54-574 through
54-729, and all amendments thereof, relating, generally, to plumbing.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. The State Board of Health is authorized to establish official
standards and adopt regulations dealing with plumbing, plumbing equip-
ment, plumbing fixtures and appurtenances thereto. The standards adopted
shall in no case be above those required by the American Standard Na-
tional Plumbing Code in effect on the effective date of this act.
§ 2. Counties, cities and towns may establish standards and adopt
regulations dealing with the same subject, provided, however, such stand-
ares ae regulations shall not be below those adopted by the State Board of
ealth.
§ 8. The enforcement of regulations established under the provisions
of this act shall be the responsibility of the appropriate local authorities.
§ 4. This act shall not be construed to repeal any local ordinance or
regulation or charter provision now in effect in any county, city or town
where the provisions are not less than the standard adopted by the State
Board of Health under the provisions of this act.
§ 5. Whenever any regulation adopted pursuant to this act shall be-
come effective, any person violating any provision thereof shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor. ; wo
2. Chapter 17 of Title 54 of the Code of Virginia, consisting of §§ 54-
574 through 54-729, and all amendments thereof, is repealed.
