CHAPTER 534

AN ACT to amend and reenact § 2-135.1 of the Code of Virginia relating to
reports to be filed by certain public bodies and political subdivisions
with the Auditor of Public Accounts, so as to require financial state-
ments to be published by such public bodies and political subdivisions.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

a That § 2-135.1 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
ollows:

§ 2-135.1. Each authority, commission, district or other political
subdivision the members of whose governing body are not elected by
popular vote shall annually, within three months after the end of its fiscal
year, file with the Auditor of Public Accounts a copy of a report of audit
covering its financial transactions for such fiscal year. The Auditor of
Public Accounts shall receive such reports and keep the same as public
records for a period of ten years from their receipt.

At the time the report required herein is filed with the Auditor of
Public Accounts every such authority, commission, district or other polt-
tical subdivision shall publish, in a newspaper of general circulation in the
county, city or town wherein such authority, commission, district or other
political subdivision is located, a summary statement reflecting the financial
condition of such authority, commission, district or other political sub-
division, which shall include a reference to where the detailed statement
may be found.
