An Act to amend and reenact § 15-926.1 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to planning commissions in certain counties. CH 162]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
_ ‘ That § 15-926.1 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
ollows:
§ 15-926.1. Any county in the State that has adopted a zoning ordi-
nance, as provided in § 15-855 of the Code of Virginia, may appoint a
planning commission to assist it in the administration of the zoning ordi-
nance and other matters affecting the growth and development of the
county. Should it be deemed necessary, the board may authorize by ordi-
nance the planning commission to hold public hearings for the purpose
of investigating the advisability of amending the zoning ordinance or
determining its recommendation to the board of supervisors on any mat-
ters referred to it. The planning commission shall consist of not less than
five nor more than fifteen persons, one of whom shall be the county man-
ager, county executive, county engineer, executive secretary, or any other
official representative of the board of supervisors, where such officers are
provided for as a part of the county administration, and one of whom may
be a member of the board of supervisors. All members of the planning com-
mission shall serve * for terms coincident with the board of supervisors
by which they are appointed. The governing body of any county having a
population of more than forty thousand but not more than forty-one thou-
sand, and of any county having a population of more than fifty-seven thou-
sand but not more than sixty thousand, may fix the compensation of the
members of the commission. The commission, subject to the prior approval
of the county governing body, may exercise such powers as are conferred
upon such commissions in counties by Article 3 of this chapter.
