An Act to amend and reenact § 87-48.1 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to receipt and expenditure by State Hospital Board of certain pay-
ments on behalf of patients under applicable Federal legislation.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
by That § 37-48.1 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
ollows:
§ 37-48.1. The State Hospital Board, under such regulations as the
Administrator of the Federal Security Agency, the Civil Service Com-
mission or the Ratlroad Retirement Board, respectively, may prescribe and
with the approval of the Governor, may be appointed or function as the
agency to which payments under the Old Age and Survivors Insurance
provisions of the Federal Social Security Act as amended, any act pro-
viding retirement benefits for employees of the Federal government or any
of its agencies, or the Ratlroad Retirement Act, may be made on behalf
of any beneficiary patients in an institution under its control. Such pay-
ments shall be expended for the use and benefit of such patient, to whom
they would otherwise be payable, and the residue, if any, resulting from
such payments shall be set aside in a special fund to the credit of the
patient on whose account such payment is made. The charges provided
for by law for the care of patients in any such institutions shall be de-
frayed from such payment. The provisions of § 37-49 shall apply to any
payments received under this section.
