An Act to amend and reenact § 18-6 of the Code of Virginia, relating to
causing or encouraging children to commit offenses. [H 118]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
en That § 18-6 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
ollows:
§ 18-6. Any person over eighteen years of age, including the parent
of any child, who shall cause or encourage any child under the age of
eighteen years to commit any misdemeanor, or who shall send or cause any
such child to go into any place for an unlawful purpose, or who shall in any
way subject any such child to vicious or immoral influences, or who shall
induce, cause, encourage or contribute toward the dependency, neglect or
delinquency of any such child, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon
conviction thereof shall be subject to a fine of not more than five hundred
dollars, or imprisonment in jail for a period of not more than one year, or
both; but when the offense consists of having or attempting to have inter-
course with any female child under the age of eighteen years, the fact that
such female was not of previous chaste character or had been married
may be shown in mitigation. This section shall not be construed as repeal-
ing, gay or in any way affecting §§ 18-3, 18-48, 18-50, 18-54, 18-55
