Approved February 21, 1956
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
46-44.1 as follows: .
§ 46-44.1. The Commissioner may, if in his opinion it is equitable,
grant a special temporary registration or permit for the transportation
of mobile homes or house trailers, which exceed the size permitted by law,
upon the highways of this State from one point to another within this
State, or from this State to a point or points without this State, or from
without this State to a point or points within this State. Such special
registration or permit shall give the registration or permit number, the
date of issue, the date of expiration and the route to be traveled and
shall be displayed in a prominent place on the vehicle. ,
The authorities in cities and towns regulating the movement of travel
and traffic therein may prescribe the route or routes over which such
mobile homes or house trailers may be transported and no mobile home
or house trailer shall be transported through any city or town except
along such prescribed route or routes.
For such special temporary registration or permit, issued there-
under, the applicant shall pay a fee of one dollar for each permit issued.
No special mileage permit, as herein authorized, shall be issued here-
under covering any of the above mentioned mobile homes or house trailers
which are subject to a license.
