An Act to amend and reenact § 8 of Chapter 207 of the Acts of Assembly
of 1930, approved March 22, 1980, as amended, relating to fire protec-
tion in certain counties the section prescribing how funds from the
special fire protection levy may be expended. 3 is

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 3 of Chapter 207 of the Acts of Assembly of 1930, approved
March 22, 1930, as amended, be amended and reenacted, as follows:
§ 3. Said fund so raised by said special levy shall be used, in the
discretion of the board of supervisors, for the payment of any indebtedness
heretofore or hereafter incurred by any volunteer fire fighting company
recognized as such by the board of supervisors of said county, located in
said county, in the purchase of necessary fire fighting equipment, and for
the purchase, by the board of supervisors, of any necessary fire fighting
equipment which, in the discretion of said board, may be needed by any
such recognized fire fighting companies in said county, and said fund may
also be used, in the discretion of said board of supervisors, for contracting
with any individual, corporation, organization, association or municipal
corporation, located within or without said county, or located partly with-
in and partly without said county, for services rendered in affording fire
protection in said county, or said board may contribute a portion of said
fund to any fire fighting company located within or without or partly
within and partly without said county that renders fire protection in said
county.
The board of supervisors may also use any part of the fund raised
by such special levy for the purposes of maintaining and operating

buildings in which any such fire equipment is kept, for fuel to be used in
heating such buildings, telephone service therein,* for the purchase of oil,
grease, gasoline, tires and necessary replacement and repairs * for such
fire fighting equipment and for ambulances or other rescue or life saving
vehicles owned or operated by or under the exclusive control of any volun-
teer fire fighting company recognized as such by the board of supervisors
of such county; provided that such ambulances, rescue or life saving vehi-
cles are not rented, loaned or leased to any private individual, firm or corpo-
ration for payment of full time or part time firemen and for other fire serv-
ice personnel deemed necessary, and for any other expense deemed neces-
sary, by the board of supervisors, for the proper upkeep and maintenance
of any fire fighting company or department in such county. The board of
supervisors shall not use any part of such fund to pay for any building
which any fire company may erect.
